In the current time of globalization that has brought cultural convergence and integration as well as cultural conflicts and tensions, cross-cultural dialogues are necessary for creating means and approaches to better understanding the reality of an increasingly multicultural world. “Cross-Cultural Dialogue: Sino-American Art Students Exhibition”, which is a significant part of the “Fantastic Art China 2016: New York International Creative Festival”, provides a platform for art students from China and America to engage in investigation and exploration through art and design cross-cultural issues of common interest.
Participating art students from China are from such major art institutions as the Central Academy of Fine Arts, Beijing Film Academy, Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology, Beijing University of Technology, and Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture. The exhibition now calls for submissions from art students from art colleges in the New York City vicinity, whose works explore a wide range of cross-cultural issues in the age of globalization. We particularly welcome art students from The School of Visual Arts, Parsons the New School for Design, Fashion Institute of Technology, Pratt Institute, Cooper Union School of Art, Columbia University School of the Arts, New York University Department of Art and Art Professions, art departments at City University of New York colleges, and New York School of Interior Design.
We seek art and design works that investigate such issues as (but not limited to) “understanding China in the globalizing world”, “cultural identity and hybridity”, “artists and the changed social and political order”, “ethnicity in a multicultural environment”, “art and religion in the changing world”, “immigration in time and place”, “art and nationalism”, “gender and sexuality in multicultural contexts”, and “the artist’s self in transnational context”, etc. Works could be in the form of painting, sculpture, design, photography, installation, video, multi-media and mixed mediums.
To submit, please e-mail 3 images of your recent works, along with detailed information as listed in the attached submission form, to zhijian.qian@gmail.com and zqian@citytech.cuny.edu (with subject line “Cross-Cultural Dialogue Exhibition Submission”).
