About Us
Commissioned by the Bureau for External Cultural Relations, Ministry of Culture of the People's Republic of China in September 2014, China Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA) started to commence the organizing or implementation of 2015 “Happy Chinese New Year: Fantastic Art China”; In December 2014, the Bureau for External Cultural Relations officially announced “Fantastic Art China” included into the framework of 2015 “Happy Chinese New Year” project. On account of the success and recognition of 2015 “Happy Chinese New Year: Fantastic Art China”, CAFA was again officially commissioned in May 2015 to carry out this project – “Happy Chinese New Year: Fantastic Art China” for the next five years. National Arts and Cultural Policy Research Institute of CAFA serves as the planning and executive body, while City Visual Culture Research Center of CAFA undertakes the visual design of the event.
National Arts and Cultural Policy Research Institute (NACPRI) is a national research authority co-founded by Ministry of Culture of the People's Republic of China and CAFA that engages in art market and arts policy research, and provides consulting and support for national arts and cultural policy-making. The institute’s main functions include: art market research, data analysis and release, preliminary research and review of national arts and cultural policies and regulations, as well as research, planning and implementation of arts policy and cultural industry. As the planning and executive body of “Fantastic Art China”, NACPRI will integrate CAFA’s established academic achievements and professional arts administrators, with excellent governmental and social resources, to create a new cultural exchange concept and pattern that promote traditional Chinese culture through the medium of contemporary public art.
City Visual Culture Research Center（CVCRC）is a research institute founded by School of City Design of CAFA, incorporating education, research, industrial development and management. The Center, with emphasis on design for society, integrates discipline construction, designer cultivation and social needs addressing, aiming to initiate students’ creative understanding of art and society, and promote social innovation through inspiring designs. As the designing body of “Fantastic Art China”, CVCRC introduces brand new visual communication ideas, works out a systematic pattern to bring audience a new world of arts as well as a new cultural and visual experience.
The event’s co-organizer, US-China Cultural Institute, was founded in 2000 as the Committee of 100 Cultural Institute, and then inaugurated its new status in 2007 as an independent nonprofit 501 (c) organization with its own officers and directors. It will continue its association with the Committee of 100 as its cultural associate to build on the recognition and equity established in both China and the U.S. by the former Committee of 100 Cultural Institute. The mission of US-China Cultural Institute is to create bridges of understanding through the arts and education, believing that these are important means to bring the necessary human understanding between China and the West for peaceful world relations. Under its new structure, the new organization will build on past achievements and relationships, continuing internationally recognized cultural exchange programs with prominent artists from around the world to set up a “bridge” of understanding between China and the West, and provide opportunity for people of Chinese heritage to achieve their highest potential.
