Organized by Ministry of Culture of the People’s Republic of China and undertaken by China Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA) with US-China Cultural Institute, “Happy Chinese New Year: Fantastic Art China” is a grand international public art project that employs contemporary arts as its major medium to promote Chinese traditional culture. As one of the important sub-brands of “Happy Chinese New Year”, “Fantastic Art China” has brought in the finest visual art and music. Joined by the preeminent artists and art institutes from both inside and outside of China, on the occasion of the Spring Festival, “Fantastic Art China” shall promote Chinese culture to the world in the form of public art.
“Fantastic Art China” had its debut during February 17 to 24, 2015 at New York landmarks such as Lincoln Center and Empire State Building. It was the first time “Happy Chinese New Year” introduced a specialized team of arts administration and design to the project’s planning and implementation that combine unparalleled governmental resources and a clear strategy with CAFA’s established academic basis, professional arts administrators and brand new visual communication and ideas, to realize the transformation from traditional culture into contemporary arts. Having drawn attention from local Chinese New Yorkers, such an unprecedented cultural promotion employing comprehensive arts as its media has also gained popularity among western audience. From arts people experienced harmony across different culture and derived different inspiration. More than 100 media institutes including AP, Reuters, New York Times and Washington Post have covered the event.
“Happy Chinese New Year: Fantastic Art China” will make its second appearance from February 4, 2016 (the 26th day of the last month of lunar calendar), and last till February 10, 2016 (the 3rd day of the first month of lunar calendar). The exhibitions and events are to be held at prominent venues in New York, including Park Avenue Armory, Lincoln Center, Empire State Building, Times Square, Jacob K. Davits Convention Center, and Pier 84 at Hudson River Park.
2016“Happy Chinese New Year: Fantastic Art China” has already set off for intense preparation. And the event receives full support of the Ministry of Culture of China, China National Arts Fund, and Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in New York. We will fully cooperate with art and culture institutes, institutions of higher education, media, and communication organizations, and present to the world a feast of Chinese art on the eve of the 2016 Chinese New Year.
